North Lake Tahoe Camping

The north end of Lake Tahoe offers fewer camping choices compared to South Lake Tahoe, but good campsites can still be found. Reservations are practically mandatory in the summer. William Kent and Kaspian campgrounds and the Tahoe State Recreation Area on the west shore of the lake are situated close to the water and provide typical campground amenities.

Other campgrounds can be found north of Lake Tahoe at Donner Lake, along the Truckee River, and to the east at Mount Rose.

Beaches and Picnic Sites

Numerous public beaches and picnic sites dot the North Lake Tahoe shoreline. Some charge fees and most have good facilities such as restrooms and piped water. A few of the more remote beaches on the Nevada side of the lake are informally known as clothing optional beaches.
