Lake Thomas A. Edison, CA

Lake Edison Fishing

Anglers make the long drive to Lake Thomas A. Edison in search of trophy size German brown trout. A record brown weighing 23 pounds 4 ounces was caught in Edison in 1972. The lake also has good size rainbow and brook trout.

Some fishermen like to snowmobile into the lake to be there for early fishing when the ice first begins to break up. Others swear that the fall offers equally as good fishing.

Where to Fish on
Lake Thomas A. Edison

Among the best places to fish, whether from bank or boat, are around the inlets of Cold Creek on the north shore and Mono Creek at the east end. The ferry can carry you up to the Mono Creek inlet in the morning and pick you up again about 4:45 PM. Float tubes work well there, too; but be prepared for cold water.

Both north and south banks drop off quickly. Trollers like to work in a large loop around the lake and in the area around the dam. The little point of land just east of the campground is a great place to fish from the shore as well as in the Warm Creek inlet.

Best Baits and Lures

Trout: A lot of success has been reported for Acme's 1/8 ounce Kastmaster Brook Trout for Sierra lakes. Anglers at Edison have also had good success with Berkley Powerbait, Kastmaster, Rapalas Countdowns, Rebels, Needlefish, Tube Jig.

For deep water trolling consider using downriggers or weighted lines.
